Supporting Men Across Oldham

A place to connect, switch off and take time for yourself.

At Spark Oldham, we understand that men can sometimes find it difficult to talk about how they are feeling or ask for support.

Work, relationships, family life, finances and everyday responsibilities can all take their toll. Yet many men continue to carry these pressures quietly.

Our work with men is designed to offer something different: relaxed, welcoming opportunities to meet other people, enjoy meaningful activities and take some time away from the stresses of everyday life.

There is no pressure to share anything you are not comfortable discussing and no judgement about what has brought you through the door.

Sometimes it is simply about having a brew, trying something new and spending time with people who understand.

Men’s Meet-Ups

Our Men’s Meet-Ups provide a relaxed and friendly space for men from across Oldham to come together.

The sessions are designed to help men:

  • Meet new people and reduce isolation
  • Take some time away from everyday pressures
  • Talk in a comfortable, non-judgemental environment
  • Try activities that support mental and physical wellbeing
  • Build friendships and local support networks
  • Feel more connected to their community

You do not need to be experiencing a mental health crisis to attend. You might be having a difficult time, feeling isolated or simply looking for an opportunity to get out of the house and meet other men.

There is no pressure, no judgement and no expectation to speak in front of a group.

You can participate in whatever way feels comfortable for you.

Men’s Wellbeing Activities

Our men’s sessions include a variety of activities that give people an opportunity to relax, reset and focus on their wellbeing.

Activities may include:

  • Mindfulness and relaxation
  • Woodland walks and time in nature
  • Creative art sessions
  • Gentle wellbeing activities
  • Informal conversations over a brew
  • Social activities and opportunities to connect
  • Practical techniques for managing stress
  • Sessions delivered with trusted local partners

Our outdoor and mindfulness activities give men an opportunity to step away from their normal routine, spend time in nature and allow their nervous system to slow down.

These sessions are not about sitting in a room and being told to talk. They are about creating natural opportunities for conversations and connections to happen.

Supporting Dads, Grandads and Male Carers

Our work also supports dads, stepdads, grandads, foster dads, carers and other positive male role models.

Being a parent or carer can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also bring pressure, worry and isolation. Men are not always asked how they are coping, particularly when the focus is understandably placed on the needs of their children or wider family.

Through our family activities, community groups and men’s wellbeing work, we create opportunities for male carers to:

  • Spend positive time with their children
  • Strengthen family relationships
  • Meet other dads and carers
  • Access community support
  • Become more involved in local activities
  • Look after their own wellbeing

Men and their families can also access Spark Oldham’s wider programme of activities for children, young people and local residents.

You Don’t Have to Be Struggling to Join Us

Join Us

Our men’s activities are for any adult man who would benefit from connection, conversation or time for himself.

You might:

  • Feel lonely or isolated
  • Be experiencing stress at work or at home
  • Be dealing with relationship or family pressures
  • Want to improve your mental wellbeing
  • Be new to the area
  • Want to meet other local men
  • Be looking for a positive way to spend your time
  • Simply fancy getting out of the house for a couple of hours

You do not need a referral or a diagnosis.

You do not have to explain why you are attending.

You can just come along and see how you find it.

What to Expect

We understand that attending something new can feel daunting.

Our team will make you feel welcome and explain what is happening when you arrive. Sessions are friendly and informal, and you can take part at your own pace.

There is no pressure to speak, disclose personal information or participate in every activity.

You are welcome to come on your own, attend with someone you know or contact us beforehand to ask any questions.

Through our community network, we can help people access practical assistance, local information and a safe space where they will be welcomed and listened to.

Men may first connect with Spark because they need support for their family, want to volunteer, are interested in a community activity or simply need somewhere to have a brew and a conversation.

Whatever brings you to us, you will be treated with dignity, kindness and respect.

Working in Partnership with You Matter

We are proud to work alongside You Matter to deliver men’s wellbeing activities in a welcoming woodland environment.

The setting gives men the chance to spend time outdoors, take part in mindfulness and creative activities and connect with others away from more formal surroundings.

Our partnership allows us to bring together local knowledge, wellbeing experience and a shared commitment to supporting men across Oldham.

Organisations and Businesses

We are keen to work with organisations that share our commitment to improving men’s wellbeing across Oldham.

You can support our work by:

  • Referring or signposting men to our activities
  • Hosting or helping to deliver a session
  • Sponsoring a men’s wellbeing activity
  • Providing equipment, refreshments or materials
  • Offering volunteering opportunities
  • Supporting an International Men’s Day event
  • Sharing information with employees, customers or service users

By working together, we can reach more men and create more opportunities for early, accessible and community-based support.
